FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On October 14, 2015, and for the second consecutive school year, a group of elite REALTORS will adopt H.P. Fitzgerald Elementary School in North Las Vegas to teach financial literacy and business to students. “JA in a Day” is a product of the national Junior Achievement organization that brings grade-specific financial literacy programs to public schools, with volunteers from the business community teaching the kids.
“Every year, our students look forward to Junior Achievement,” said Fred Watson, Principal at H.P. Fitzgerald Elementary School. “The hands-on activities are educational, engaging, and fun! They are also aligned with the STEAM focus at Fitzgerald. The volunteers are knowledgable, professional and interact well with the students.”
Utilizing the fun, innovative curriculum designed by Junior Achievement, REALTORS (as small business owners) will present their own life experiences along with the JA curriculum to enhance the students’ school learning with real world preparation. This is a unique event as students will spend the day with small business owners who are volunteering their time individually for this event.
“We are thrilled to work with Junior Achievement again this year,” said Shawn Cunningham, organizer of the REALTOR volunteer group, “We had 24 volunteers last year, and almost 40 this time, so we can take over the whole school.”
Most members of the REALTOR group are members of the Council of Residential Specialists (CRS), an advanced group of high-perormaning REALTORS who also are involved in the community. CRS agents typically make up the top 3% of REALTORS nationwide, receive substantial additional training and must be particularly productive in their businesses before becoming a “CRS”.
"The Fitzgerald Elementary students participating in “JA in a Day” will be exposed to entrepreneurs of the highest caliber,” noted Brandon Park, a Mesquire REALTOR and the local CRS president for 2015, “Our group really wants to pioneer something special by brining in so many small business owners at once.”
