The Technology Age is Long Gone - This is the Age of Way-Too-Much-Information Part II
What do you think? How has the abundance of information available today affected your business and do you think you’re adjusting well to it?
On yesterday’s bog, I outlined my belief that we are well passed the “technology age” and those who still think that are stuck in the 90s.It’s now the Age of Way-Too-Much-Information, and as REALTORS, this era can be challenging, but I believe there are far more opportunities for us than challenges. So how do we succeed in this new age? Some tips in the next blog….
- In the Age of Way-Too-Much-Information, we have to realize the easiest most efficient way to reach each client.I add every single client after closing as a Facebook friend and follow them on Instagram (almost everyone is on one or the other). If they are one of the lucky few who have chosen to sit out the new forms of social communication entirely then you can default to phone calls as they probably have more time on their hands than the rest of us (-:Think of this: when I see a client has a challenge in their life, a kid has an accomplishment, they are taking a trip that I have already taken, etc. I can reach out to them in a way that values them. That’s using the “Age” to our advantage. We get more information about people than ever before - use it to provide high touch service.
- The reverse side of Tip #1 is you too need to be open, transparent and authentic in this Age.You have to feed the Age as that’s where your clients, referring agents and family are.I LOVE to travel and eat. I don’t shy away from sharing my travels and the passion I have for experiencing other cultures.I have often had agents ask me if clients don’t refer because they think I travel all the time. That’s 1990s thinking.People don’t buy and sell houses that often.Everyone knows 5-7 REALTORS.Most people have hundreds or even thousands of friends/people they follow.Great local eats, and amazing trips are interesting - people will follow that before they’ll pay attention to your latest listing. In fact, my clients reach out to me all the time for restaurant advice and travel tips.Other agents do also.Do you think they’ll remember me for their next referral?
- In the Age, knowing something that everyone else doesn’t is more valuable than ever. See those death-defying Instagram stunts? That’s because someone has already been to every cool beach, city, or mountainside in the world, and Instagrammed it.Finding something local that isn’t well known is exciting to Millenials. That’s why in Las Vegas, every single casino that’s been renovated in recent years has added a speakeasy, or secret bar, or restaurants that are hard to find on purpose. What do you know that your clients don’t?The next hot restaurant, or for investors, the deal that large websites can’t possibly know about. The Age gives us amazing power as we are in the know in our communities.Use it!
What other tips do you have for REALTORS trying to thrive in today’s Age?
